Regional groundwater model ‘Reuss River’, Switzerland Building a numerical model of the regional groundwater flow system as a base for various specific applications (since 2004) Services provided: Generating a groundwater flow model using FEFLOW; calibration and continued updating; using the model as an assessment tool for planned interventions into the groundwater system such as stream renaturation, water extraction, flood control measures, road construction or energetic exploitation Project main scope: Authorities of the Canton Lucerne require a flexible modelling tool including a continuously updated database in order to assess any type of intended interference into the groundwater flow system along an approx. 20 km long stretch of the Reuss River.
Coupled modelling for clay, France Full scale 3D modelling of the coupled gas migration and heat dissipation in a geological repository for radioactive waste (2008-2010) Services provided: Developing a modular approach to model numerically the coupled flow and transport of hydrogen and heat on the scale of an entire repository while simultaneously considering small scale structures; model conceptualization and realization using TOUGH2-MP; sensitivity analyses; computation on our cluster for a study period of 1 mio. years Project main scope: Investigation of the Callovo-Oxfordian clay unit as a potential hostrock for a geological repository for radioactive waste at Andra’s Meuse/Haute-Marne underground research laboratory in France. |
